英文中的“be of + 名词”句型用来描述主语所具有的特征或性质，包括等级、大小、类型、质量、年龄、重要性等。
与 be of 搭配的常见名词有 use， help， importance， value， interest， benefit， age 等， 这些搭配很多已形成习惯用语。名词前还常常有 no， any， great， best， same， high， low， much， little 等表示程序和量的修饰语， 如 be of great quality (高质量），be of little value (几乎没价值）
1、 表示有用或有帮助的名词：
be of use/no use 有用（没用）
~ help/no help 有帮助 (没有帮助）
Please let me know whether I can be of help. 请让我知道我是否能帮上点忙。
It is of no use. 这个没用。
2、 表示价值和重要性的名词：
be of value 有价值
~ importance 重要
~ benefit 有益处
~ no harm无害
~ significance 有意义
What they have done is of no harm to us. 他们所做的对我们没有任何害处。
Jack's discovery is of great importance to our country in the future. 杰克的发现对我们国家未来非常重要。
3、 表示质量、等级、标准的名词：

4、 表示尺寸、长度、形状 (size， length， height， shape) 的名词

像这种包含介词of的动词短语有很多： be composed of 由…组成， be accused of 被指控犯有…罪行， be deprived of 被剥夺…权利/职位等， be informed of 被告知…， 等等。 若问为什么，很抱歉，回答只有：没有为什么！理由很简单，没有人能讲出来为什么要用of而不用to或for或with等等。
对这类动词词组（短语）只能是碰见一个记忆一个，巩固的方法也只能是在阅读或语法练习中多加分辨。 值得注意的是，这类短语有时会在所用过去分词与of之间加入状语成分而增加辨认难度。例如： He was accused by the Bush administration of misleading the media.(他被布什当局指控为误导媒体) The general manager was deprived by the board of the post.(总经理被董事会罢免了职位)
